DESCRIPTION

This is a 6-day ride starting and finishing in the town of Orange, NSW about 3 hours ride west of Sydney. This route is mostly off road, plenty of open farm roads and outback style highways that may seem long and straight but they will keep you well and truly on your toes. You will also spend some quality kilometres off the beaten track, places you generally don't find on outback rides. There are some sandy sections but in the scheme of the overall distance they are minimal and you will be supported through those where needed. This route stretches all the way to Cameron Corner, the intersection of NSW, QLD and SA borders; a location many riders wish to tick off their list of must visit destinations.

TEMPERATURE

This time of year the temperature should be from lows of high teens to max of early thirties. As with any outback event though, be prepared for temperature swings that are out of the ordinary.

ROUTE DIFFICULTY

This route suits experienced off road riders, there is only a relatively small percentage of bitumen riding and extensive outback style dirt roads with constantly varying surface. Mostly flat and undulating riding with no real technical up or downhills. There are some light sandy sections which can vary in difficulty with road and weather conditions, keep in mind the crew is there to support you through any difficult terrain.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

We want this to be easy for you! All you need to do is turn up on your GS in your riding gear and have a 55L soft roll bag with your personal luggage in it. We will carry the bag in the support vehicles for you. A small tank bag or tail bag is handy to carry gear liners, spare gloves etc. Below is a list of some items that can make the event more enjoyable.

  • Two pairs of gloves, regular and cold weather

  • Thermal clothing layer is great to add warmth without bulk when riding

  • Gore Tex or wind breaking layer to ride in, especially for cold mornings

  • Goggles

  • Camelbak for hydration and to carry snacks

  • Warm jacket for nights

  • Garmin Inreach, Spot Tracker or similar. While not required these are a great investment for remote riding, even amongst a supported group.

TYRES

Off road style tyres are required, we recommend Metzeler Karoo 4 tyres and this is what staff bikes will be fitted with. Other examples are Continental TKC 80, Pirelli Scorpion Rallye or similar. Please begin the event with new or as near new tyres as possible. We will carry spares but they are for fixing damaged tyres only, not for tyre replacement due to wear.
